Sourdough Scones
Ingredients (4 scones):
Main Ingredients:
- 160g self raising flour
- 40g cold butter cut into small cubes
- A pinch of salt
- 40g caster sugar
- 100g sourdough starter
- 30ml milk + a splash
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Utensils:
- 2 bowls
- Baking tray
Instructions
Prepare (15min):
- Preheat oven to 200°
- Line a baking tray with baking parchment
- In the first bowl, place the flour, salt and butter and rub together with fingertips until butter lumps have gone
- Add sugar and mix
- In the second bowl, mix sourdough starter, milk and vanilla extract
- Pour the second bowl into the first bowl and use a round ended knife to work the mixture together (the aim is to have a soft slighty sticky dough, don't overwork)
- Tip out the dough onto the floured surface and flatten it out with your hands until minimum of 3cm thick
- Dip your round cutter in flour and cut out your scones (press cutter down and don't twist)
Cooking (15min):
- Place on baking tray, brush with a little milk on the top and sides, place in the oven (12-15 mins until golden brown)
