Geothermal
Geothermal
The process of exploiting the massive heat energy stored within the earth (though only the heat within the earths crust is remotely accessible via current means) and converting that heat into electrical energy via established means.
Enhanced Geothermal
The process of exploiting the massive heat energy stored within the earth (though only the heat within the earths crust is remotely accessible via current means) and converting that heat into electrical energy via established means. This involves drilling wells several kilometres deep to reach a suitable heat, pumping water down the inlet well to heat it up, and retrieving it via the outlet well at very high temperatures. The steam from this heat can power a generator and create electricity.
Ground Source Heating
By utilising the small temperature difference mere metres below a building heating/cooling mechanisms can be boosted to become more efficient. Contrary to other geothermal methods this actually uses the energy from the sun hitting the earth's surface rather than the heat from the earths core.
